Humbly Delighting in His Leading
I must admit that this time of year lack of light can be difficult. That’s why I am thankful for the little bit of snow we’ve received lately. It brightens everything up. For others, the snow might not be so beautiful. Can you imagine if we as humans had the ability to control the weather? Somehow, I think it would lead to a world war since nations wouldn’t be able to agree upon what would be best for everyone, and some would feel that they were being hurt at the expense of others. It’s good that God is in charge of the weather.
Yet while we can’t control the weather, we do like control. When Adam and Eve were tempted to eat from the tree that Satan said would make them just like God, the root of the temptation was arrogance. If they would eat of the tree, they wouldn’t need God. They could be in control.
But what would they be in control of? All that they had was ultimately from the hand of the Lord, the Creator, who designed them to be stewards of His creation, blessing them with intellect and wisdom to do just that. Yet instead of being content to be stewards, Adam and Eve wanted to be owners. And from the point of the fall into sin onward, it has been the same. We arrogantly find ways to play God, ignoring boundaries He has set, failing to give Him the thanks, praise, and honor He deserves, and allowing ourselves to be influenced by those who defiantly insist God doesn’t even exist, worried more about approval from them rather than from our God.
We read in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Jesus obviously fulfilled that as He did not take issue with His Father’s plan for our salvation but humbly followed His will. And the result? Our salvation! And so it is for us. When we not only “let God be God,” but also humbly delight in His leading we will be blessed. As Jesus says, “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.” (Matthew 5:5, New Living Translation)
