One Person at a Time
Have you ever wondered, “Am I making any kind of positive difference in this world?” Perhaps you have read about or personally know someone who seems to be a true influencer, doing important things that impact a lot of people while you seem stuck in the same old, same old. One thing that the Scriptures make clear is the importance of every person and how making a difference in just one person’s life can make a big difference in this world.
This weekend’s message will go through the book of Philemon, a personal letter of St. Paul’s to a man named Philemon concerning his runaway slave Onesimus. Philemon (who was a friend of Paul) would have the legal right to punish Oneismus severely, but Onesimus, who somehow came into contact with Paul when Paul was in prison for his testimony about Jesus, asks Philemon to welcome him back as a brother in Christ. If tradition is correct, Onesimus ended up being a leader in the church at Ephesus.
Whom has the Lord put into your circle of influence that needs to be influenced by the love of Jesus? You can begin with the members of your household, and then expand the circle to friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. God knows the plans He has for all of those people, just as He knows the plans He has for you. And when you model the love of Jesus and specifically share the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus, you’re truly being used by our Lord to make a difference… one person at a time.
