The greatest blessing you can give
If you're watching our Lenten Video Devotions available each weekday on our website, YouTube Channel, and facebook page, you know that we have been focusing on giving a blessing for Lent (well, not just for Lent, but for each season of life). What is the greatest blessing you can give?
This Sunday, we'll hear about the LORD giving a great blessing to Abraham, recorded in Genesis 12. Not only was Abraham promised that he would be made into a great nation and that the LORD would make his name great, but also that he, Abraham, would be a blessing and that all nations would be blessed through him. We're a part of the "all nations" that were blessed through Abraham because Jesus our Savior according to His human nature was from Abraham's family line. According to His divine nature, He is eternal God. And so, the "God Man" came in Jesus to live among us and do what God has always wanted to do: bless us.
This Sunday, we'll also hear about a man named Nicodemus who came to Jesus at night, perhaps because he was a Pharisee and also one of the seventy members of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish "Supreme Court" at the time of Jesus. Most of the Pharisees and members of the Sanhedrin were not pro-Jesus, but Nicodemus was drawn to Him and wanted to learn from Him. Among other things, Jesus taught him the beautiful promise of John 3:16 that whoever believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Nicodemus had a choice at this point. Would he embrace the blessing given to him or resist the work of the Holy Spirit? Would he openly identify as a follower of Jesus or try to hide it for fear of what the others might say?
When we unashamedly live as followers of Jesus, we have the peace of knowing that where we go our Lord goes with us... all the way to heaven. And so if He goes with us, we're constantly being blessed. And what do we do with that blessing? Share it with others!
