The Way, the Truth and the Life

The claim of the Bible is that there is only one God revealed as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that Jesus was not just given special gifts by God but is, in fact, God who dwelt among us also as a true man. So if, in fact, there is only one God and Jesus is God, His claim to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6) is valid.

What this also means is there should be a distinct difference between what Jesus teaches and offers and what other "gods" teach and offer. While some might claim, "All religions are basically the same," that is a rather simplistic claim that has not done the work of legitimately comparing the teachings. There is a difference.

But what about the claim that all the squabbles between religions has led to wars and unrest and that the world would actually be a better place without any belief in any kind of God? There is a difference between what is done in the name of a religion and what is actually taught. Not only that, but while there are negative examples of things done in the name of religion, there are also many positive things. So, again, before one makes a claim one must also do the work of researching what is actually taught.

And when it comes to the claim of exclusivity by God, the question is: What does He really want? Is it simply power and control, or is it something deeper? The claim of the Bible is that is it something much deeper: God is love and wants people to know the wonder of being in a relationship of love with Him.

And so, when the way through life is sometimes very hard to see, we can put our confidence in a God who not only promises to be with us, but promises to get us through things because He wants us to be with Him now and forever.
