What’s next?

Have you ever found yourself wanting to have a moment last longer than it does? You’ve looked forward to something, it happens, and then you move along to the next thing. As we observe Palm Sunday and begin Holy Week, looking forward to the celebration of Easter, we will again hear the account of our Lord instituting the His Supper, His passion, suffering and death. We will gather for services that will include yearly traditions such as the stripping of the altar leaving the chancel area of the sanctuary bare at the end of the Maundy Thursday worship service, and the extinguishing of candles after the words of Christ Jesus on the cross are read during the Good Friday worship services. Both those services always prove to be very meaningful, and, in fact, are designed to go together as one service, so please make every effort to join the faithful for worship on both of those days. Then, on Easter Sunday, we will sing with great joy the praises of Him who rose victorious. We’ve looked forward to these things, but then what? What’s the next thing?

That’s a good question, appropriate for us to ask ourselves on Palm Sunday as we at Beautiful Savior also observe the Rite of Confirmation with six of our young people publicly confessing the faith and their intention to walk with Jesus. If we make that same confession, what’s next? There is so much more to life than getting stuck in the routine of the same old same old. Each day is filled with the wonder of God’s personal love for us and unexpected blessings even in the midst of the evil one’s attempts to harm us. As we begin this Holy Week, pray that the Holy Spirit would enable you to hear the words of the Scriptures with a new sense of wonder and awe. When one walks with Jesus by faith, life is no longer routine but filled anew each day with the joy of the Lord’s salvation.
