Wanna Have a Catch?
My daughter Marissa shared a story about Christian Yelich taking time to play catch with a 12-year-old boy named Tate. Then my son Isaac texted that today would have been the first varsity baseball game of the season. And so what does a Dad who loves his son and baseball do? He texts back: “Wanna have a catch?”
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
At my wife Ellen’s urging, I took a few hours this afternoon to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather – sunny skies, temperatures in the mid 50’s, and just a hint of a breeze. So a little after 4:00 p.m. we found ourselves with our dog Jingles on a trail at Mitchell Park in Brookfield.
Midweek Lenten Service for April 1 is Online
Lord, stay with us. We want to remain with you.
Trying to Obey the Copyright Laws
One of the challenges that comes with having online worship opportunities is the whole matter of obeying copyright laws. While we do pay fees to licensing services to be able to reproduce music in the bulletin and on the screen, those licenses do not necessarily cover everything that is done online. Thus, the music we’ve been using is done with special permission.
The Church in Action
I was going through some pictures on my tablet the other day and came across a family picture taken at Beautiful Savior two years ago on Easter. I decided it would make a very nice background on my screen. Not only do I get to look at my loving family, but I also have the reminder that in Christ we have the eternal victory.
Worship Service for Sunday March 29 is Live
Advent in Lent? There is much we can learn from Mary about trust in the midst of challenging times.
Riding Out the Emotional Rollercoaster
There was a time in my life when I used to love riding rollercoasters. I would often sit in the first row so no one blocked my view of what was coming next. If it was a steep drop, bring it on. A corkscrew taking me upside down? Let’s go.
The Savior’s Word Newsletter is Available Online
The latest edition of The Savior’s Word, our school ministry’s monthly newsletter, is available online. This month, our Principal Jenny Wolff includes updates about the plant sale, second trimester report cards, as well as tutorials for using Google classroom as we return to remote/online education after a much-needed spring break.
The New Normal
I breezed through an article today titled “Coronavirus Will Change the World Permanently.” It included opinions of 30 “macro thinkers” on how our world will be permanently changed as a result of the current COVID-19 outbreak. Quite frankly, if some of the opinions prove to pan out, I am concerned about the loss of personal freedoms and for the longterm effects on public acceptance of the Church.
Keep Going to Church
The following headline was on the Miami Herald website on March 23: “Churches Across US Continue Holding Large Gatherings Despite Coronavirus Warnings.” The article quotes one pastor’s words to his assembled congregation: “Keep going to church! Keep on worshiping God! ... The church is a hospital for the sick! It’s a place of healing for the brokenhearted.” He also said, “The way to handle a pandemic is through the healing hand of Jesus.”
Mental Health Wellness During Challenging Times
The outbreak of COVID-19 may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about this disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. The following tips are provided by the therapists and counselors at Lutheran Counseling and Family Services of Wisconsin.
COVID-19 Update
With Governor Evers issuing his “Safer at Home” order, we have entered another chapter in this very different time in our world’s history. The Scripture passage which continues to come to mind and is now on our church sign is Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Safe at Home
As I write this, I am sitting in my office at church wearing a Brewers jacket, staring at all the Brewers bobbleheads on top of my bookshelves, as well as a Brewers pennant. This is usually a very exciting week for me as the new baseball season begins.
