Working Together For the Common Good

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a big project and were overwhelmed with all that had to be done? The lack of time, resources and talent seemed to make its completion impossible. When that happens, it is so good to have others come alone not only to encourage you, but also to help you accomplish the project. One of God’s designs in creation is the concept of community in which people with different skills and abilities work together for the common good. Paul describes it this way in 1 Corinthians 12:27, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

For the past several months, the Board of Directors with the aid of others in our Beautiful Savior family have been talking with several contractors regarding fixing the leaks in our rook and removing duct work and relocating the HVAC unit for the sanctuary from the roof to ground level. What has been most enjoyable to me is to watch how different gifts and abilities have been used to get us where we are, whether it be expertise with mechanical issues or financial issues, good communication skills with contractors, organizing information, or generous financial giving. Now, the Board of Directors, empowered by the voters, has selected two companies which will hopefully be able to begin the project before winter sets in: Nations Roofing and Dillet Mechanical.

You may be thinking to yourself, “I really don’t have much to do with accomplishing this project.” You do, because you have a gift we all have been given – the gift of prayer. Your elected officers have diligently sought the Lord’s guidance to this point and will continue to do so. Please join them in regularly asking our Lord for His continued guidance and blessing upon this project. Without Him, we’ll be overwhelmed. With Him, we can go forward confidently, knowing that even if the evil one tries to mess things up, our Lord who defeated Him through His death and resurrection will go with us and see things through to His glory and the growth of His Kingdom.
